As graduation quickly approaches, seniors may start focusing on their new chapter of their life, college; however, there are a few more events to close the seniors’ high school career.
The week before graduation, seniors will have a variety of events to celebrate their accomplishments, including the senior walk, where seniors will walk the school in their cap and gowns while being cheered on by fellow students, senior sunset on May 22, where seniors will gather at Carlisle field to watch the sun set on their high school journey, senior picnic on May 16, where seniors can will enjoy Kona Ice and Canes, while spending time with their friends before they graduate, senior walk on May 16, where seniors will walk the halls of the school, as well as their old schools in their gowns, and will be able to participate in dress up days on prom week; which consisted of ‘Anything but a backpack day’, ‘Rhyme without a reason’, ‘Senior citizen day’, ‘College shirt day’, and ‘Prom shirt or campus gear day’.
“We celebrate the accomplishment of each graduating senior and create a space for seniors to be proud of themselves and reminisce about their time at CCHS. This includes senior panoramic picture, senior walk at students’ former elementaries and intermediates, and a catered meal with snow cones back at school,” Old said.
One of the most anticipated events, prom, provided fabulous entertainment with Masquerade Ball winning the most popular theme. Students were encouraged to dress for the occasion, and masks certainly fit. The prom tickets were $70 the first week and went up to $85 closer to the date. Prom started at 7:30 and ended at 11:00, and is located at the South Shore Resort and Conference Center.
“Students must complete a prom clearance form before they can buy a prom ticket,” Assistant Principle, Patrick Old, said.
The four-year Superintendent Scholar’s dinner is reserved for seniors who have received the Superintendent Scholar’s Award all four years of high school. Students receive their award, along with a chord celebrating their accomplishment. In order to receive the award, students must have a 95 and above in regular classes, and at least an 85 in honor and AP classes.
“4-year superintendent scholars recognizes students who achieve 95’s or higher in their classes for four years of high school, not had any suspensions, and less than 10 absences each year,” Old said.
Finally, graduation culminates the 13-year accomplishment on May 23, where seniors will be walking the stage and receiving their diploma. Students are required to wear their cap and gown, no jeans, flat shoes, and no heels. Additionally, phones are prohibited during the ceremony.
