Kelsea Ballerini is a country singer-songwriter from Mascot, Tennessee. Ballerini recently released her third album Kelsea, on March 20, 2020. Kelsea was co-written with Ballerini, Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins. Homecoming Queen? is one of the songs that were part of the album but released beforehand on September 19, 2019. Ballerini used this song to showcase what goes on in the real world. The song focuses on human imperfections, instead of being picture perfect, which is what today’s society looks for. Not only did the song showcase the problems with what humans expect as society, but the album also showcased the problems that Ballerini, herself has suffered in her life as a role model for the youth. After releasing Homecoming Queen?, Ballerini later shared Club with the public. Club is a song for the people who would rather stay in and have more fun, than going out and partying.

“Definitely the most emotional song I’ve ever released,” Ballerini said.

Although she has co-written nearly all her songs, Ballerini wanted to do a few things differently with this album, including writing a few of her songs solo. Ballerini’s album featured two stardom singers, Kenny Chesney and Halsey. Although they are not in the album, other artists such as Ed Sheeran and Julia Michaels helped Ballerini with the tempos of the songs to appeal to a wider audience with her music.

“My biggest personal goal was to really show myself as a songwriter this time,” Ballerini said.

Kelsea’s soundtrack includes, Overshare, Club, Homecoming Queen?, The Other Girl (with Halsey), Love Me Like A Girl, Love and Hate, Bragger, Hole in The Bottle, Half of My Hometown (Feat. Kenny Chesney), The Way I Used To, Needy, A Country Song and L.A. Although there is not a tour set to premiere the new album one will soon be scheduled.

Ballerini announced the release of the third album January 22 on her Instagram page. Although Ballerini is young she has received a nomination for Best New Artist at the Grammys in 2017. The 26-year-old has 3 albums, Unapologetically, The First Time and her newest one, Kelsea. Unapologetically and The First Time have had seven charted songs on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. Although she did not win the Grammy awards, she has won Radio Disney Music Award for Country Favorite Artist twice, iHeartRadio Music Award for Best New Country Artist and Academy of Country Music for Gene Wood Milestone Award.

Ballerini started her career by writing a song at age 12 for her mother. Ballerini moved to Nashville three years after writing that song to attend a liberal arts school, Lipscomb University. Two years later she started singing and writing songs for a living. Ballerini also started on The Voice as a fifth coach in the 2018 season. She was the “Comeback Stage” coach who mentored the six most deserving people who did not make it past the blind audition portion of the show, who would later have a chance to reenter the competition.

She first came into the public eye in 2015 when she released her debut single, Love Me Like You Mean It. It was a chart-topping song placing number one on the Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts. One year later she released her first album, The First Time. Ballerini’s first hit single, Peter Pan was on the album. She became the first female artist in country music to see her first three singles debut consecutively on the top of the country charts.

“I’ve been down with getting to know myself. Just mentally and emotionally,” Ballerini said.

Throughout her career Ballerini has become more emotional and personal through her music and connecting with the people that go through some of the same struggles, such as body confidence and constantly being looked up to. With Ballerini writing an entire album for the past three years she has still managed to find time to get married to another singer-songwriter Morgan Evans. Soon after the wedding she found out she was pregnant. Ballerini claims that this has brought her more together with herself in her music.
