The Theatre Department invites you to support our 2019 UIL One Act Play entry, Watch on the Rhine by Lillian Hellman. This powerful drama set in 1940 tells the story of a German member of the anti-fascist underground who, with his American wife and three children, flees Hitler’s Germany and finds sanctuary with his wife’s family in the United States. He hopes for a respite from the dangerous work in which he has been involved, but his desire for personal safety soon comes into conflict with his beliefs. In the end his conscience cannot be compromised and he returns to Germany and the resistance movement—and to what will be, most certainly, his ultimate destruction. Told in compelling, human terms, the play is an eloquent and stirring tribute to the brave men and women who, despite all odds, struggled early on to stem the tide of fascism which was soon to spread throughout Europe. At its core, it is a story about the perilous position of love and family within a world under threat from a violent ideology.
The show runs forty minutes in length. Our UIL One Act Play District Contest is on Saturday, March 23 at Dickinson High School. We perform second (around 3:50 PM) and admission to the contest is typically $5-10. The complete performance order for the contest is Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls, Dickinson, Clear Springs, and Alvin.
Below is a list of the Students who have been working on the production. I know they would appreciate any words of encouragement as they make their final preparations for Contest day.

Voter Registration
We can register any students who live in either Galveston or Harris Counties for voter registration. They need to have either a Texas driver’s license, Texas Personal I.D. number or know their Social Security number (the forms only ask for the last four digits).
Students need to be U.S. citizens 17 years and 10 months or older to register, and can vote when they are 18. Of course, if there are any staff wanting to register we can accommodate them as well!
We are looking forward to being at Clear Creek HS this Wednesday.
Thanks for you help!
Sincerely,
Cari Greene
