At Clear Creek High School, students have many opportunities to join organizations that allow them to flex their creative muscles. For those Wildcats who are musically inclined, there are three great options for using your talents and growing as a performer: choir, band, and orchestra.
Clear Creek’s choir program, first established in 1968, has steadily grown with the help of passionate student performers and supportive directors. Today, Mrs. Smith and Mr. Taylor lead the program and have created an environment that allows students to not only grow as performers, but also have fun and build community.
“There is a community I am a part of, and I wanted to do something that was bigger than myself.” Aiden Blancas (12) said.
Blancas has been part of the choir since his freshman year and was promoted to officer this year. While there are many events that make choir fun, Blancas singled out the North Texas Madrigal as his favorite because it is a great way to connect with other students.
The school’s band program is led by its director Mr. Fincher. Joining the band does require a significant time commitment, but is a very rewarding experience that is worth the extra effort.
Students begin the year with band camp at the end of summer to develop their marching skills, musical chops, and form bonds as a unit. The skills developed during camp are honed throughout marching season through consistent after-school practices and performing at football games, pep rallies, and marching competitions.
“Marching season is a lot of work, but so much fun,” said band member Addison Burns (9). “We put in a lot of practice, but we also get many opportunities to perform and become better musicians.”
Mr. Fincher agrees that the work load can seem like a lot, but he is proud of his students for their success and the energy that they put into performing.
The school’s orchestra, directed by Mr. Cornett, offers students a unique and exciting musical experience With four performances throughout the year and a UIL competition students have plenty of opportunities to showcase their talents.
“I joined orchestra because of my love for music as well as wanting to develop my musical skills,” said Kayligh Johnson (11).
Focusing on classical musics and traditional instruments, participation in orchestra requires skill and focus but also builds a sense of camaraderie among its members.
“I like orchestra because it allows for me to have a creative outlet during the school day. It builds community and provides a lot of great opportunities,” said Lucas Dunn (12).
If you are musically inclined and are looking for a way to showcase your talents on campus. The Wildcat Band, Choir, and Orchestra provide students with ample opportunities to shine.
