The definition of anime to most people might be known as the “Japanese cartoons” and be seen as weird or corny to some people. While yes, there can be certain moments that look bad out weird out of context, but it could be there for the good fun of the people who really like it. On the contrary lots of people love anime and all that it has going for it. They can have amazing characters and great worldbuilding like any other TV show that you watch but is hated by some because they think it’s drawn weird. Just because art might seem weird doesn’t mean it’s bad.
Anime has been around for a long time now, and it has come a long way in art and storytelling themes. Anime isn’t just for weirdos to gawk at all day and have odd body pillows. Anime is very diverse in its genres and storytelling themes that all people can like. For example, people can say Pokémon isn’t weird because it is considered more of a cartoon than an anime. But kids will watch it because they think it’s interesting to watch animals with supernatural powers fight.
Anime can also have an effect on trends. For example, in 2024 the anime Jujutsu Kaisen started to have memes of it being created by people and was dubbed lobotomy Kaisen due to how stupid it was to watch. In early 2023, Vinland Saga had an Infamous quote saying, “I have no enemies” and this quote went viral on TikTok and really started to make anime more mainstream and normal to watch and talk about to other people.
Animes that I might recommend for someone who is new to anime are something like Jujutsu Kaisen or Full metal alchemist brotherhood. If you like sports, then you might want to try Kuroko’s basketball (Basketball) or Hajime no ippo (Boxing).
So, in my opinion I think everyone should try and give anime a watch and then try and form an opinion about it. I recommend getting recommendations from others to see where a good area is to start based off what you like. (Yuta’s a bum ✌️)
