The Clear Creek High School boys’ varsity basketball program is taught by head coach Wesley Bryan, who is dedicated to developing a successful athletic team prepared to overcome obstacles. His unique teaching method aims to foster efficiency not only on the court but also in students’ daily lives, emphasizing strong academic performance and proper etiquette.
Coach Bryan purposely introduces adversity during practice sessions. A prime example of this strategy is implementing drills with an unbalanced seven defenders during press breaks, forcing players to think critically and adapt under pressure.
This current season is the youngest group of players since 2013. By prioritizing school, the head coach makes athletic periods into dedicated study halls to provide extra support for student-athletes facing academic challenges.
The team’s commitment goes through even during the off-season. This period involves players engaging in an intensive eight-week summer workout program, participating in a competitive summer league, and attending various showcases all year-round.
Team captain Carlos Cantu for the varsity team showcases the growth made by the program, with his skills having improved on a large scale over the years. His leadership, effective shooting, high energy level, and amazing citizenship when facing game difficulties have shown his captaincy quality. He has successfully learned to manage his time effectively, balancing his dual roles and prioritizing academics over sports.
Carlos praises the team’s resilience and extends an invitation to aspiring athletes. Now we encourage anyone interested in joining the basketball program next year to seize the opportunity; it is well worth the effort. Shoot your shot!
