The Color Purple Review

The version of the beloved movie, “The Color Purple” was a two hour long musical directed by Steven Spielberg. It is a heartfelt story taking place from 1910-1940, and is about two sisters and Mrs. Celie husbands, Mrs. Celie is played by Fantasia Barrino. Ms. Nettie is played by Ciara Princess. Mister is played by Colman Domingo. Sofia is played by Danielle Brooks, and Shug Avery is played by Taraji P. Henson. The actors did struggle sometimes with how to end its musical songs. Every actor played their role well and all scenes were spot on.

The movie tells a story about Mrs. Celie’s life and the facing of many hardships she had along the way. Finding a way out of the situation hoping she find her hope and strength and find her sister in the end. In The Color Purple addresses the topic of abuse, discrimination against women, and racism.

The movie was overall breathtaking with all the singing, there’s belief that a lot of people can relate to it because of the fact that the experience in the movie still happens in many places today and women can’t speak up for themselves without the help from someone else.

The overall storytelling was great from being to end and It draws the viewers in, in the first scene it shows seeing the two sisters as teens doing everything, they possibly can together. It shows one sister as the hated one, and the other was a favorite, Nettie Celie. It wasn’t easy for Mrs. Celie even her husband soon to realize that he was nothing without a woman, never knew what was good until it’s too late or gone. That’s what Mister played by Colman Domingo learned when Mrs. Celie left him to be on his own. Overall, the movie was enjoyable and if seen the 1985 film the 2023 one is worth the two hours.
